Passive Voice

Today I am bringing into appreciation an English grammar topic that is full of style and representativeness.

In English, we can express sentences in two different ways: active voice and passive voice.

The active voice is used when the focus is on the subject (the person or thing doing the verb).

  • Millions of people use the internet every day.

The passive voice is used when the focus is on the person or the thing affected.

  • The internet is used by millions of people every day.

The passive is often used when the person or thing doing the verb is not importantunknown, or obvious.

Hi, guys! How’s it going?

This afternoon I am bringing to you one of my favorite songs. For me, the perfect match of lyrics, melody and singer. 🙂

It was written by all four members of Coldplay. Cris Martin also noted that the song is “probably the most important song we’ve ever written”. Cris Martin’s former mother-in-law stated in an interview in May 2012 that he ‘wrote the song for Gwyneth [Paltrow, his ex-wife] when her father died and I weep every time I hear it’. Read more.
